The Fersina Valley is a charming linguistic oasis, where an ancient dialect dating back to the 1200s is still used by both young and old. This language, called M\u00f2cheno, is considered by linguists as a phoneme of Middle-High Bavarian origin, imported by the German settlers known as Roncadori. They settled along the banks of the Fersina stream, in a narrow inlet between the mountains in the southeastern part of Trentino, at the northernmost end of the Valsugana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The limited exchange with the outside world by the valley’s inhabitants has favored self-sufficiency and allowed the language to continue living in its original form over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Influences from Italian, particularly from the Trentino dialect and surrounding areas such as Perginese and Pinetano, as well as from Tyrolean, are considered relatively recent.
